Thank you for supporting Perth Zoo with a symbolic adoption of the Black Cockatoo.
There are three species of Black Cockatoo found in south-west Western Australia. Two of these, the Baudin’s and Carnaby’s Cockatoos are endangered, and the Red-tailed Black Cockatoos are near threatened. Habitat destruction is a major threat to these birds, as cutting down trees destroys the cockatoos’ nesting sites.
Fun Fact: All three Black Cockatoos make different sounds. Carnaby’s Cockatoos make a ‘wee-loo’ sound. Baudin’s Cockatoos make a ‘whicha whicha’ sound. And Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos make a ‘karrak karrak waa waa’ sound.
